Help needed please.

I have a 3 year old Khaki Campbell who last year was laying paper thin egg shelled eggs. We live in Northern Michigan USA and our winters are 8-9 months long. Spring is here and our Cayuga is laying a rock hard egg each day. The Khaki is not. She is walking very little, I find her sitting in the corner of the fenced in area each day, and she floats a lot in her pond. Still, no egg parts when I drain the pond to refill every other day. I found her in her bedding/straw area the other day with yolk pouring out of her bill. She was pecking the egg out and the long stringy, soft egg shell was hanging out of her vent.

What I have done so far.
Warm bath soaks every night until she poops so I know she is passing her food and to potentially help release the egg.
Injecting her with 600 Mgs of ground calcium with infused D3 via down her throat with a syringe.

I am worried she isn't going to make it at this point. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Jen

@jevans1 I'd go to TSC and get calcium gluconate a vet prescribed this for a member who duck was egg bound it works to bring on contraction to help pass the egg. .2ml per lb of body weight. Very sorry she is going through this . I know how helpless you feel. :hugs

We have an avian vet who lives an hour away, but he is on vacation until May 7th. I have an appointment scheduled on Monday at his office, with a non-avian vet. Hopefully they can help somehow but I am not very confident they will know anymore than I do at this point.

This non-avian might suggest starting a prophylactic antibiotic like Baytril as well as some vitamins and minerals. Speaking from experience, I can tell you that when chronic soft shells are ignored that it can result in death from infection, so please do see the vet Monday and talk about it.

By chance did your Khaki come from Metzer farms? Our Khaki, Ginger who was around the same age started suffering from the soft shells and was later diagnosed with EYP by a vet. Her abdomen/belly was hard to the touch and not squishy like it should be. Numerous times we had to assist her with removing the soft shell from her vent. The decision was made to have her put to sleep because she wouldn't have made it much longer.
