Shell picked off of egg due any day

I lifted up my broody hen to see if my chicks have hatched. I found one of the eggs has had most of the shell picked off but she is still moving. This is my first hatch. They are on day 20.
Should I try to assist? (Not yet, the blood has to recede)

As soon as I found it, I ran to the house and grabbed vasilene to put on the membrane.

Good job on the Vaseline. I recon you don't have an incubator. If not, Take your brood lamp and put some shavings in a plastic bowl. Dampen the shavings with warm water for humidity and put the egg in it and under the heat lamp. Get the temp between 95 to 100 degrees. It should still hatch. I would worry about the brood hen stepping on it and smashing it.

I don’t have a heat lamp because I use the mhp method. The heating pad only gets to about 90 degrees or so. I dont have an incubator.

Heating pad would at least be a start if you could find another heat source too..

Rickba advice it good, heating pad is good, by putting in a plastic bin it will be warmer than 90 for sure, if you need more heat put a light bulb (40 watt) over it using a desk lamp or trouble light (what I used to you). Keep us posted.
