Hello everyone!

I am a new duck momma! I have three ducks that I believe are Pekins. I have had them for five weeks, and I got them when they were a week old. I have never raised ducks before so this is definitely a new experience! I couldn't be a more proud duck momma though! I love them so much!

I went out to the cage today, they have a temporary cage that is about 15 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 4 feet high, and I noticed this white stuff all about their cage, especially by their water bowl. It seems like a cross between shale and plastic in texture, but it is not particularly hard, just semi. When I let them out into their pool after they were done I noticed it again. What is this?

Thank you so much! Any suggestions would help!

Does it look like little tubes and flakes? If so it could be part of their feather shafts as the grow. Sort of there type of dandruff.

Is the stuff fairly small? Sounds like they are getting adult feathers in. Adult feathers come in with something like little plastic straws (though it is not plastic, but rather more like a cuticle). As the feather develops, the cuticle flakes off, and you will see it in their swim water and pretty much around where they spend time.

I agree with the other two posters. Sounds like its peelings from their feathers coming in. Its like big whiteish/clearish flakes.
