my pullets are just beginning to lay, and one of them laid a egg with no shell... is this normal for young hens?

I think it is lack of calcium, do you offer your pullets Oyster shells?

no, thought that was in the layer feed- will get some in the morning, do i just add it to the feed or how much do they need?

In a lot of cases calcium is in the feed, it's in the brand I use. Pullets or young birds of any type often lay soft shelled eggs, from time to time even older birds will. The signs of calcium deficiencies are when all their eggs are soft or thin shelled for a week or 2. Oyster shell by no means will hurt a thing, but as long as it's not a prolonged ordeal, I wouldnt loose any sleep over it. Chaulk this one up to it just beening a young birds getting started, the eggs should harden right on up in a little bit ,And yes, just mix it in with their feed as far as the oyster shells go.

I think I read somewhere on here that this might happen when they first start laying...maybe she's just getting warmed up??
