Sheltering in place with chickens

We’ve been ordered to shelter in place and both luckily work in tech so work from home now. We also have a preschool age child. We have an empty backyard coop we inherited with the house. We ordered some supplies and 6 chicks from cackle hatchery. We’re getting three buff Orpingtons and three blue americaunas. Excited for the adventure and scared we’ll mess this up!

Thanks! We lucked out that the previous owners kept chickens too! We reckon between free ranging and that 8x4 foot run, they’ll do fine.

Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined.
You are going to want to about triple the size of your run if you want happy birds. The area that run provides just isn't large enough. I would also sanitize the inside of the coop as well as you can. You can brood the chicks in there if you have easy access to electricity for a brooder plate or setting up a momma heating pad.
