Hello all,
Today we just found out that one of our "girls" is a boy. (Oops) We are quite new at raising chickens which is now pretty obvious and I was just wondering if its ok to have only one rooster for our now 7 girls? We were hoping to add another 6 hens to our flock also but a different breed. Does that matter too? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think you'll be fine. If you can I would try and get those new hens in there before he gets too aggressive. Most roosters aren't very aggressive or noisy if they have a flock of there own, it's when you get too many that it becomes a problem. Since roosters use crowing as a method of communication and to exert their dominance, he might be quieter if he is by himself.
