Flock has Marek's. Banty picked on so I brought her inside to nurse. She stopped eating yesterday and I found lice on her. She is anaemic, eyes closed, listless, not moving, no more poop. How can I ease her suffering?
An you put her down? Many slit the jugular vein, while many use cervical dislocation with the broom stick method. With a small chicken garden loppers can also be used, to cut off the head. Death is instantaneous and humane.
Can you treat your chickens and coop with a lice treatment, such as Permethrin 10 spray or garden dust? Lice can be very bothersome to any chickens, especially when they are dealing with an illness. If you are going to let this sick chicken die on her own, please treat her lice first. No baths, but just make her comfortable and keep her war. Sorry that you are losing this chicken and dealing with Mareks.
I was going to treat her for lice, but then saw how badly she was doing and just left her in the hospital box. She died quickly on her own...more quickly than I expected. Thank goodness it was fast. I was looking for an easy answer, but I know there isn't one. Thank you for your responses.
Sorry for your loss, but glad that she didn’t linger. No matter how much they seem to be suffering, it is always a hard decision to put them down. I have had to do it several times, but I am glad that you didnt have to make that decidision.
