So Barbecue is broody she'd trying to hatch golf balls poor thing. I have explained to her that the golf balls and Goldie's and her eggs will not hatch but she does not believe me
Last night she was in the nest box (she layed and egg yesterday) so I kicked her out and this morning I did the same thing. Then went back out after they both are normaly laying eggs and she has not layed an egg but was again sitting in the golf balls and Goldie's egg.
I kicked her out again and closed the door to the coop so she can't get back in. They have a covered run.
Do they stop laying when they go broody?
My coop is not big enough to set up a cage that has a wire bottom. I could put one in the run, but don't want to leave her alone at night when the others go in the coop to sleep
Are there other methods of breaking a broody hen.

Oh no we found an egg in the run. Aggg it's her color egg so did I kick her out the second time when she was actually laying an egg, I think because we found an egg in the run. I kicked her well past her normal time for laying an egg. So I opened the coop up and took out the golf balls
Should that help?
I have 2 more gals that are getting ready to lay will having the other girls showing were to lay help them know were? With out the golf balls to show them

I did use fake eggs for the 5 Wynadottes I had prior to the girls I have now, they went broody with the fake eggs. I haven't used fake eggs with the set of 4 BOs I have now, they know where to go. Got one laying & waiting on the other 3 but I've seen the others go check out the nest box.

That's too bad.

I have never really had problems with chickens not laying in the nesting boxes. The only other place they lay is in one corner of the coop, which looks almost like a little nesting box.

with Barbecue still laying eggs up thinking I should hold off on setting her up in a broody cadge, correct? And just keep taking her out of the nest box for now, and after my girls are done laying close the coop so Barbecue can't get to the nest box till night?

Would this work for a broody cadge?

If she's still laying, and not staying on the nest at night, she's not broody.
Leave her be.
Some birds do quite a bit of lounging in the nest before/during/after the laying process,
so don't be too quick to conclude that she's broody and intervene by tossing her off the nest. Some of my birds seem to always be in the nests, some go in drop the egg and back out to other chicken business.
I only call 'broody' once they are on the nest most the day and all night for 3 consecutive days.

If she is broody, you could leave her in the raised crate in the run during the day, sheltered from sun and rain, the put her on the roost after dark.

Thank you I'll keep an eye on her and let her be for now
