She's gone bonkers!

My 4 year old hen came out of molt early February and started laying again. And I got a few great eggs out of her. Now for the past few weeks she will sit in the nest box for up to 2 hours and sing her laying song but there is no egg?! I've even sat and watched her come out and instantly checked to make sure there was no egg. I tried to look it up and I thought well maybe she's trying to go broody on no eggs. So I put a couple of eggs in the nest and the next day they were gone. Not even left over egg yolk residue. I'm at a loss as to what is wrong. I've eve checked her for egg bound. Nothing. Is she retiring? I'm not sure if she's done this before as I just inherited them and have had her for less than a year.

At 4 years old she may be going into 'retirement' - temporarily or permanently.

That's what I figured. I was hoping she could make it another year. She always gave me huge light brown eggs.

But what happened to the 2 eggs you put in there?
Something stole them......same something may be stealing her eggs too.

I don't think anything is stilling the eggs. Because I've checked for a week straight to see if she laid because she is like clockwork. She's on the nest at 9 and comes off around 10. I've seen her walk out and I run out to find nothing. Only thing I can think of is they ate the eggs and did a real good job as to not make a mess with them. I'm not sure tho. This nest is in the coop until I get my bigger one built. So the other hens hide their eggs in our shed. They started doing that when the new rooster took over. So I'm guessing they are afraid he will eat their eggs? But I know nothing is stealing hers because nothing is there.
