Okay, Paddock36 --- now I have to go out to remind the young Maran pullet that she is expected to lay those pretty eggs -- sigh, one more thing on the 'to-do' list.
This girl, 'Mabel,' is easily offended so I will have to approach the subject carefully ---
You named a French Marans, Mabel? If I was her I'd be easily offended too! How about Mich`ele instead....you might get a beautiful egg like the one in the middle of the basket!
My white Marans named Blanc de Blanc laid that for us...Thx Blanc!
I didnt think I was going to like white birds( Im a nurse...I hate all things white! HeHe!). I thought they would be hawk bait but no! The ones I got are the sweetest out of all my Marans. I've got a Cuckoo Marans Cockrel who is on the auction block so to speak....interested?
I feel that she knows it's an honor to be named Mabel after husband's grandmother!
My others are named for my mama's best friends when I was growing up --- the only thing missing with that bunch is the afternoon 'soirees' featuring dainty glasses of sherry!
Grandmother Mabel would have never, ever sipped sherry and this Marans pullet does seem to be disapproving when the other girls lounge around gossiping in the dust-baths every afternoon ---
My other new pullet is named 'Mozella' for a very special person from my childhood --
In case I ever get another Marans, what names do you suggest so that we can get a lovely egg like the one in your basket?
"Antoinette?" "FiFi,?" "Gigi?"
When I was a child I had a trio of bantams -- some kind of French breed -- their names were Charles Boyer, Claudette, and Mimi --
I cheated....I googled "French Boy/Girl names....Blanc is the only girl named but we have Francois-Wheaton Maran roo, Marcel-Black Copper roo, my favorite Julian- Black Copper roo....the Cuckoo roo is named PITA
