Our mystery pullet squatted today! She was also pacing and rather chatty. She already has a 3 finger pin bone separation and moist open vent.

Hoping to see her 1st egg soon, and wondering what color it will be.

Common thoughts now are some sort of Marans/Wyandotte cross which would hopefully still yield a darker brown egg like the Marans

Or an EE type mix which may result in an olive egg (probably a slim chance, but it would be fun)

Congrats on the positive signs! It's always fun to see the starting signs that you'll be getting eggs really soon!

As for the breed, I would personally veto the possibility of Marans in the bloodline, with that comb. Maybe an EE mix, but that definitely looks like the comb a Wyandotte (or even Brahma) has, not a Marans or an EE. Maybe the Wyandotte would drown out the EE comb, but I highly doubt it could drown out the Marans' type of comb. (I could be wrong - it happens, LOL! So I would take any criticism anyone wants to dole out if I'm mistaken)

So 2 of our 3 pullets started laying this weekend. We have the mystery girl pictured in this thread, plus a FBCM and a Barred Rock.

These are the 2 new pullet eggs we got...(middle is an egg from out 2 year old GSL)

Now to figure out if one of these is from our mystery gal, or if this is the Barred Rock and Marans...

How old was she when she layed?
