Shetland Hen FINALLY laid her first egg!😃

UPDATE 11/8: So after almost 8 weeks of “look don’t touch” and general healing for Fiona, she’s finally back in with the Silkied/bantam group. Started by letting her free range with them the past several weeks and today finally able to keep her in the coop/run with them without any squabbling.
A few weeks after I got her back she went into a very hard molt. Has not laid an egg since I got her back, but I feel that she will in time. She has most of her neck feathers back and is looking healthy and happy.😊

Doesn't she look gorgeous! So glad she's finally back where she can feel at home and among friends.

Thanks! 🥰
I didn’t want her put her back with the others until her feathers had grown in, decreasing the risk of further picking.
After what I thought would be a difficult integration, it ended up being quite smooth. She’s even roosting in her old favorite roosting spot. 😊

That must be such a relief for her, to have her old spot back!
Maybe having the new feathers helped with her confidence? That would help the integration. They look so glossy and she looks really healthy.
I'm glad they're not squabbling and she's in a peaceful flock after her ordeal. TBH my Shetlands haven't squabbled -but maybe they've not yet reached that stage- but they really don't like it at bedtime when the others are arguing over who sleeps where.;

They laid their first egg yesterday! The others aren't laying and it was -6C, not spring time weather at all, so it was a really special surprise and I'm unreasonably proud of them :D.

So, I sold Fiona back in July as I was focusing more on the Silkies and my new job required me to scale back on the chicken numbers due to time constraints.
In the meantime, the person who bought Fiona called me last week and asked me if I would like her back as he was just unable to get her integrated into his flock. And yes I did refer him to BYC and all the excellent integration articles here! Fiona went with another hen as I never sell them singly, apparently the other girl is doing just fine. He also said he only got one egg from her the past 2 months. 🤔
Poor Fiona must have been terribly picked on and stressed. We got her back last night.
Fiona got the full spa treatment today: Bath, blow dry, nail trim, dose of worm and mite medicine, wound debridement, antibiotic ointment. Now she is out enjoying the grass for a bit.
Not sure where she will end up with the other birds, but will be in quarantine for now.
She has a home here for life.😊View attachment 3264736View attachment 3264739View attachment 3264735View attachment 3264737View attachment 3264740
Omg! I’m so glad you got Fiona back! Poor baby! What a lucky girl to make it back to you. At least the person had enough decency to return her.
