Back in January, my 8mo old Shetland rooster (photo below) died suddenly, so I gathered eggs from my pullets that were laying to hatch. I got 6 fertile eggs and all hatched.
Two eggs were from a Koren Ogye x Legbar cross (melanistic hen). These two chicks are like night and day. I've tried to research how these two from the same hen and rooster can be so different! The light one is leaning cockerel and the melanistic one, pullet. The first pic is 4 weeks, the second at 2 weeks.
I've even included a pic of grandma hen (the mother of the hen).
Ideas on how a light chick arrived? Is it the 25% legbar???
