shiitake mushrooms

I still see them for $30 in various garden catalogs.I have read it is really good for your immune health. I did not realise the kit will give you shrooms for a long time.I thought it was just a one batch deal.Hmmmmm seems like it would be worth it,because the store prices are high.

yes if u havvest logs in winter when trees store the most sugar is best time to cut logs, then plant mushroom spors in white or red oak logs they will last 3 years or more if u keep the logs from drying out (spray them with a garden hose from time to time) and fall or winter let the snow and leaves cover them. its very easy

We purchased plugs from pine tree seeds last winter, stored them in the refrigerator and waited for a friend to do some land clearing. We have two logs in the greenhouse under the benches next to the tomatoes. We hit them with the hose when we water the tomatoes. The ends are starting to turn black, is this normal? I think we turn them on end after six months? If we put them under the oak tree and have the garden irrigation hit them over summer, will that work or would I be asking for spores of the fungus on the dead part of the oak tree to infect the shiitake logs?
I am so glad some one else has done this! it is a little unnerving, because I have always been told that mushroom -ing is dangerous if you don't know what you are doing, and I do not know what i am doing.
My child's art teacher gave us some of hers last year and they were wonderfully fantastically good.
(especially with fresh eggs!)

We just inoculated some logs last month--we can't wait for them to start producing!

black is ok like in the picture

Don't worry about spelling or grammar or anything. I have to use google tool bar to check all of my spelling, so don't feel badly. I have gotten much better over the years, spell check would tell me that they had 'no suggestions" which meant that I spelled it so wrongly that The computer couldn't even figure out what I was trying to spell!

I need to turn the logs on end soon. It is exciting. I am on target!
You know, being a mom, and cleaning kitchens, and bathrooms, and laundry, black and moldy are bad things. I have to remember that I am talking about mushrooms, and it should be black and moldy looking!

Please add pictures as you rearrange the logs so that I will know what to do!
Thanks!
