Shiny Feathers

I know when I had buff Orps usually one of the first signs was the males would have shiny hackle feathers when their male specific hackle feathers started showing up.
Interesting…I don’t usually keep roosters but my last accident was a Lavender Orp and there was nothing shiny about him. But that’s obviously because lavender. I will have to keep an eye cause if it is a thing it would be one more useful tool in the “is it a cockerel” tool kit

I responded to your other post. #1 and #4 look like cockerels.

#3 is a maybe
Thank you! I didn’t notice any shiny feathers when I posted before so I wasn’t sure if that was something else to learn about. I didn’t know if hens also had that or if that could kind of confirm for me that they’re males

If the hackle feathers are shiny AND pointy, that would be male specific. Saddle feathers on males will also be pointy and shiny but usually comes in when they're a little older.
