My average hatch is well over 50% and I do a lot of coturnix quails which are notorious for being bad shippers.
My serama's were the hardest to hatch, Button quails are hard to hatch and within the first 24hrs after hatch they are extremely fragile.
If you start hatching you might want to think about keeping good records, and a good hygrometer and thermometer or 10!
This is what I track: who I purchased from, date purchased, date shipped, date arrived, # of eggs shipped, packing good/bad, broken eggs, incubation set date, rotten eggs, infertile eggs, early quiters, late quiters, hatch date, hatched, died after hatched, live birds.
I do this so I can keep track of bloodlines (seller) how the PO handles eggs from that area (how long shipping took) etc etc etc
I then can tell who I will buy from again and who I will avoid, if I have a incubator problem (early and late quiters) etc
as it says in my tag line... I know nuffin so take the info or leave it, but have fun!
Hatching eggs is fun but its also a bit of experimental science as each environment is unique. Start with cheap eggs you don't really care a lot about till you get things running smoothly then expand to the more expensive harder breeds until you have what you want.
