Shipped eggs (i'm done)

I'm on my first incubation/hatch and its all shipped eggs. I honestly don't expect a huge hatch, although one set of eggs is developing really well with lots of live chicks at this point. Of the delivered 62 eggs I have about 40 left. Of those the first in have developed best with about 10 of 13 still viable. Those should hatch this week. The last two sets of eggs are 10 days tomorrow, of the 20 eggs shipped I'm having a tough time seeing any movement. Could be the dark eggs. I'm not holding much hope for them, really.
I chose people on the west coast to buy eggs from, but did buy one set from the east coast. Some of those are actually still going at this time. We will see what actually happens.

I also have a couple hundred coturnix eggs that should hatch this week. Very difficult to candle, but I have seen some babies in the lighter eggs.

All in all, the incubation/hatching process has been fun and a real learning experience. Some people pay for movies and dinner out. I pay to watch life happen. (Or not, in the case of dud eggs!! LOL)

Shipping does wreck havock and not much we can do about it but to buy from sellers who will at least pack well. Check the feed back thread for that. I have had eggs known to ship well come out great and eggs know not to ship well not hatch a one. Infertile eggs happen, just be a responsible seller and listen to your buyers feed back. I got 6 of 8 eggs from a lady on here that were infertile, that's really frustrating but it can happen; what is unforgivable is the "no not me, my eggs are perfect response . . . sheese . . ."
that said, I have had enough wonderful experiences (especially from here) to keep on buying those eggs from far away

We opened the 6 eggs that did not hatch. 1 was fully developed. 1 was a quitter probably in the first 2 weeks. The rest never started. Probably scrambled in shipping. I do feel better. I went to the local feed store and purchased a partridge cochin and a RIR to grow up with my 1 welsummer.

I loooove baby chicks!!!!

I have had both good and bad hatches from shipped eggs, enough good ones that I dont mind taking a chance.

Ugh! I stink at incubating! This is the first spring we've tried incubating, and it hasn't been going so well. My first hatch was with shipped eggs, and we had 2 of 9 hatch (1 died overnight). So we decided to try again with 56 donated eggs (18 hand delivered, and the rest were mailed). 14 of the 18 hand delivered eggs hatched perfectly and only 5 of the remaining hatched, but it was really dragged out. I thought I figured it out, but when we tried 12 EE eggs that had been hand delivered NONE hatched! ARGH!!!
