How about a middle-ground? I found this to be extremely helpful for shipped eggs with burst/damaged air sacs: Put them pointy end down in the incubator and don't turn them more than a few degrees for the first three days. This way, you can also put them straight in the incubator, if you think they have already started incubating in the post. If your turner holds the eggs on their sides, use an egg carton. Cut the bottoms out and the tops of the points, so that air can circulate as much as possible. Then just pop something under each end to tilt them every few hours or so.
I must admit, letting them sit for 24h+ does help.
