I'm thrilled, and scared. I recently lost my oldest of 5 ducks to a predator, and the youngest girl turned out to be a draklet. Leaving me with 2 drakes and 2 hens. Long story short, I ordered eggs from Ebay.
12 eggs that might give me , lavender, silver, blue, chocolate and a color I have never heard of, mid-purple. I will be over the moon if I get 2 females from this hatch.
The eggs came beautifully packed, with no broken shells. They also included 4 extra! Most of the air cells were wobbly, some were rock solid and a few looked really iffy.
On the 31st I put them under my broody muscovy. She had a nest of 12 she was building. I removed most of her eggs and replaced them with the shipped ones. I hoped the extra number would push her into fulltime sitting. It took two days I would say before she was full pancake, down feather lined and parked on them for the long haul.
At one week I snuck out and candled the eggs. All of shipped eggs were fertile and developing! She also had four of her own eggs that I didnt have a chance to check.
Today is the 19th and I just ran out there this morning when she was bathing and candled them again. It was pretty light, but I could just make out aircells and even a few veins. All 16 shipped seem to be alive. one of the eggs was stained pretty badly with blue berry poo or juice. The stains have absorbed into the egg shell and it looks scary and I can only see some of the air cell. I tried smelling it, and it smells like duck butt, like all the others. She walked through a blueberry mess on they way back to her nest one day and a number of the eggs are sporting some purple spots. I assume this would happen in nature and decided to leave them alone. Of the 4 that were hers, one was removed today, infertile and with two drakes, go figure. 6 of the shipped egg aircells are good, no wobbles.
This will be my first hatch of shipped eggs. Have I made any mistakes do you think? I'm worried about letting the eggs sit one day in the house and than the two they spent in the nest before she went full time broody. When do you think the hatch day will be? Should I remove the badly stained egg? Is there anything I can do at this time to help the still moving aircell eggs?
I'll post some pictures when my son wakes up and shows me how to make the pictures from my phone show up on the computer faster.

Hi Jennifleur;

I am considering ordering ducklings from the same farm. I am curious what happened? What colors and sexes did you get from the eggs?

Thank You,

Kimberly

The blue wild type on the right is only duckling from my eggs. the one on the lower right is a very light tan wild type.
I have 12 ducklings from the 16 eggs. Two eggs thrown out early. the other 14 made it to external pips and started to zip. Unfortunately I lost two to an ant invasion during the hatch. In Southern CA. we live on one big super colony. The ants were drawn to the moisture and blood. They started swarming the nest, crawling inside the eggs, biting and eating the contents. It was toward end of the hatch luckily.
The colors are lovely. Most are barred, with chocolate. Some seem a very light grayish tan. I also had some atipico pied and three wild types. one a brown, lighter brown and a tannish.

Again lower left blue duckling is mine. the duckling in the upper left corner is a pied dusky? color? of the two brown wild types, the bottom sidewise one has hint of bluish gray in tail feathers.
.
This is one that I lost, it seemed to be doing ok for the first day, lost it the next morning, it had gone downhill fast during the night. The ants had been all over it inside the shell. It was a solid light brownish grayish tan.

I don't have vent sexing down yet. I have read a week old is a good time to try it. The eggs were packed very well. I do suspect that they might have started to develop while shipping. The entire time the shipped eggs were further along than my three. I also lost two of my own eggs to the ants since they were last to hatch.

I dont seem to have a picture with them all.

Duckling ER

I would order again from this seller in a heartbeat!

Funny, I was just thinking about writing to the seller and asking. I was also hoping someone else on this forum has pictures of ducks and ducklings from this seller. I love the mid-purple color. I wonder if it's the Lavender genetics combined with blue and chocolate.

I was thinking that maybe she found a way to breed richer and darker, blue fawns. If you do get any mid purples you don't want to keep, please let me know, I am in San Diego every month : ) and will be delighted to buy one from you. She has some for sale now, or did last week, but I would have to buy ten ducklings.

I only plan on keeping two or three. I think I want to keep one of the darker chocolates, one of the barred and a light tan. A variety pack. The rest will be for sell soon along with at least one of my drakes. PM me if you want to arrange something.

Hi Jennifluer (& everyone);

I am new here and I have tried three times, over the last few days, to private message you as suggested about the ducklings you will be having for sale. I don't see that they went through. If you find time, maybe if you message me, I can make it work?
