shipped vs homegrown eggs

Is if common for chicks from shipped eggs to develop to hatching time and then not hatch? I have had two batches of shipped eggs that I hatched with our own eggs and I have had very few actually hatch. About a fourth of them hatched last time, the eggs had full sized chicks inside the shell, our own eggs had a good hatch. This time, I have had 12 of 15 of our own hatch ( days 20&21), and 0 of 13 shipped eggs. I am 22 days into incubation, only one of the shipped eggs is pipped. At 18 days they all candled with healthy appearing, moving chicks. Any thoughts?

Shipped eggs are ALWAYS a gamble.
There are just way too many variables that can add to the low hatchability.
The post office handling from truck to truck can be a major concern.
Also, some people just don't test the fertility of their own eggs and they ship eggs anyway.
You will always get a way better hatch rate with your own eggs!

This happens to me with shipped eggs. They look good going into lock down and about 20% sometimes more won't hatch, where 100% of my own eggs in lock down hatch. Sometimes the shipped eggs pip the wrong end and die so I'm guessing that the shipping may disorientate the embryo and they are positioned wrong to hatch.

Thanx, but the pic is not mine.
I saw it and thought the colors were beautiful and the mom w/chicks was so precious I had to use it as my avatar.
One day I'll take a pic of one of my birds w/chicks in front of some beautiful flowers that I'll grow myself (yeah right).

How many of the 13 eggs that were shipped showed development? Sometimes with shipped eggs it can delay the hatching process. I have had shiped eggs hatch on day 23 to 25. I am not sure why. I hope you have a good hatch. It is distressing to spend the money, wait 3 weeks, and then be dissappointed. I have been there many times. What I look for with shipped eggs is development. Shipping can cause eggs to not develope, but if a good portion of your eggs develop, then it is a sign of decent fertility on the breeders end.

My first hatch was pick-up eggs and I got 11/12

I am trying my first shipped hatch as well. (May12th hatch date)
I also am hatching the first time of my own. We will see if the new boyfreind is holding up his end of the fertility deal.

good luck....I hope the shipped are just lazy and will come in a day or so.....
