Shipping day olds

so im sitting here scratching my head thinking "how are hatcheries aloud to send chicks in the mail!" but what I would like to know is it possible for ANYBODY to send day olds the same way or is that something only hatcheries can do. It would be a heck of a lot cheaper to get them that way thats for sure!

Anyone can ship chicks and started birds for that matter. They must be shipped in an approved container and some places they must have the proper paperwork with them. It is fairly expensive to do, even for the small breeder, though.
