Shipping hatching eggs

The BYC'er I sent my test eggs to said they all arrived safely.

I want to buy a paper shredder..then I want to try shipping like this:

Put shredded paper in egg carton and place eggs in and then fill the rest of the carton up w/ shredded paper. Then wrap the carton in bubble wrap and then place in in a box filled to the brim w/ shredded paper. I'm thinking if you have a layer of shredded paper on the bottom then placed the carton in there and then fill the rest of the box up w/ shredded paper...that would work? Your thoughts?

I just received eggs packed like this, except the eggs were wrapped in paper towels in the egg carton. The entire top of the box was crushed - it looked like someone kicked it then sat on it

Every egg was perfect!

I think the key was the eggs could not move in the carton, and the carton had lots of tightly packed shredded paper around each side.

I don't know if this was coincidence or not, but this was the most damaged box I've received in long time and the only one that said hatching eggs on the outside.

How many hatched? What kind of eggs/breed were they?

another is there doesnt apear to have been any filler put in the carton to go along with it.
any method used will break eggs if you dont try hard enough to stop them from moving. When you close the lid of the carton, it should barely be able to shut. gentley shake it a bit, if you feel any movement, you didnt pack it good enough and need to try again.
paper verses foam doesnt matter at all. I use both, you just have to package them right. I got another one of those well wrapped piled up boxes today, 90% were shattered, no box damage, just rattling together, so see, doesnt matter how you do it, they will break if you dont spend time and do it right.

You all have packing eggs down to a science!!!

I worked in a warehouse for years packing orders and the key is prevent the item from shifting in the box. Plenty of packing material. Peanuts have a down side, the items can slowly shift and become too close to one side and possible become damaged. Paper was the prefered filler. And lots of it!

Loved reading this thread--you are all very brave to mail eggs!

I get boxes from USPS - free

Use bubble wrap, aluminum foil and news paper. You can get newspaper free too if you hunt around. Some folks use shredded paper or popcorn. All that can be bought at walmart or any place that sells office supplies.

I also ship mine wrapped in paper towels and egg cartons. I used to use plain old cartons I got from buying eggs, but then I stopped buying eggs. Now I order a lot from eggcartons.com

I wrap each egg in 1/2 a paper towel then put in the egg carton. That is taped shut and wrapped in aluminum foil. Then in bubble wrap. I then sandwich the whole thing in crumpled up newspaper.

I can get 10 eggs in a middle sized flat rate box. You could use a whole carton, but then you don't get as much cushion space on the ends.

For a full dozen they go in a large flat rate box.

One thing I suggest when shipping eggs packed in an egg carton is to use the USPS Priority Mail SHOE BOX because it allows room for more packing material (padding) on all 6 sides of the egg carton
