SHORELINE VOTES TO KILL YOUR BARKING DOG.... absurd of course isn't it? However, the city of Shoreline will likely pass a rooster ban that means anyone who has a rooster will have to adopt it out (highly unlikely) or euthanize it. The worst part is that Shoreline makes no provision for pets that are not raised for food or financial gain. One beautiful old rooster, who has been hand raised by a 10 year old boy since this boy was a toddler of 4, stands to be euthanized despite the young boy's tearful begging for mercy at a recent Shoreline City Counsel meeting. This rooster, who sleeps in a specially soundproofed/lightproofed coop to prevent crowing, is 100% a pet, makes no more noise during the day than your average dog, less noise than your average parrot, and is a much loved member of this Shoreline family, is unlikely to be adopted and very likely to be torn away from the little boy who loves him and killed. Simply because the City of Shoreline could not take the humane step of "grandfathering" in existing birds (which many municipalities that have banned roosters have done in order to be fair to their residents and countless children who have hand raised these feathered pets). So.... please contact the City of Shoreline by phone or email at the following contact numbers if you are appalled by this inhumane and insensitive move by the city counsel...

Please contact: Rachael Markle Director of Planning and Community Development City of Shoreline WA 206-801-2531 [email protected]

They vote tomorrow, Monday, July 29th

The boy's father needs to stand out front and inform them that they will have to take the rooster over his dead body. People have cowed to this trash too long in this country.

Hate to revive and old thread but I JUST saw this news myself. I bought my first home in Shoreline city limits mostly because of their pro-chicken/rooster laws. Had I known they were going to change them I would have considered other cities in the area to a greater degree. I plan on keeping 1 rooster in my flock as part of a breeding project but apparently now I have to get rid of him by October? This is messed up.

BTW - they didn't just change the no roosters policy, they also substantially cut the amount of hens you can have within the city of Shoreline.

I don't live in shoreline but close too it and agree with the law banning roosters but maybe they should have given a longer time for them to have to be gone. Most people don't have special "sound and light proof coops" and shoreline is a fairly dense residential area. The sun can rise at 5AM in the summer time so the rooster may crow before that. Also most people don't have air conditioning up here and have to sleep with the windows open.

A dog can be trained not to bark or be brought inside, Most people aren't going to do that for a rooster. And yes there are bad dog owners that let their dogs bark forever but that is a minority.
