Shots for new chicks

Hello:

When you get 3-5 day old chicks from a feed store, do you have to get them shots? Would medicated starter food do the same thing?

You don't have to give them shots or feed them medicated feed if you dont want to. I've never medicated any of my chicks, even from the feed store, and they are all just fine.

Medicated feed helps them build a natural immunity to cocci, which is a protozoa that lives in the soil and is much more of a problem in some areas than others.
