should all eggs set at same time show same stage of development?

Too close to Boston
Shipped "fertile" BR eggs.
Day 13.
Eleven out of 13 have been discarded, rotten, no signs of development.
One is clearly formed and moving.
One is tough to see, may have form.
Should it also be "clearly formed and moving"?
I'm hoping that the one that clearly lives could have a buddy in the coop, assuming he/she survives the last stretch.

A lot of times, some begin to develop and then don't make it for some reason. So that would make you think they are developing at different speeds.

Mine developed at different speeds. A few I almost gave up on but turned out to be fine--so give them more time unless you're sure they're rotten.

I'm sorry to hear about your losses--that's a lot to lose. Were you shipped bad eggs, or are you having incubation trouble? Good luck with those last two. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

thank you.
i've been staring like a freak at the one "maybe" egg hoping to see
motion or any sign that the larger-than-a-yolk dark mass has features of any kind.

shells are mottled so it''s tough to tell.
i'm sure i see wet fuzz and an air sack.
it also has a bubble that i mistook for the air sack that moves when i rotate the egg.
the discarded ones had a loose air pocket also -- it was free in the decomposing liquid.

i'm guessing it's also a "discard" and i'll need to order some day-olds to keep my one survivor company, provided it hatches.

iamcuriositycat, my incubator seems fine.
the one that lives looks GREAT.
the ones that i discarded never developed.
i would guess bad eggs, but being inexperienced i don't want to blame a vendor outright.

Fresher eggs will develop faster than the ones that have been resting longer. At least that is what I have noticed. If I hold eggs only a few days and set a small clutch I will see clear development in 3 to 5 days.

so it's possible or likely that the vendor sent eggs layed at different times.
today is also day 14, so even the "maybe" egg should show something definite, right?

If the egg is not stinking or weeping you can watch it for a while, but sounds like you should see more development by now.

Also if you are seeing a lot of loose air cells it means the package more than likely had a pretty rough trip. You can get development from eggs with loose air cells, but it's tricky and a specialized protocol is often used.

Were the eggs well packed?

If your incubator conditions are good, it probably was the vendor.

So sorry to hear that, although I guess it's better than having your conditions all messed up!

I would talk with the vendor about it. It might not get you anywhere, but if you approach them in a non-accusatory way, they might compensate you with a new batch of eggs. It's possible it's a freak thing for them--everyone makes mistakes from time to time. If they're a good company, they'll want to make it right for you.

It does sound to me like the one "if" may be bad. But if you're not smelling anything from it and it's not oozing or anything, I would leave it in for another day or two to be sure.

Here's hoping you get at least ONE good egg.
