should all eggs set at same time show same stage of development?

eggs individually-wrapped in paper towels, loosely contained in paper egg cartons, bubble wrap and a box.
no oozing/weeping, though still a less-than-sweet aroma in incubator.
thanks, all.
i've got "maybe" on standby.
i'll give it another day or so assuming no further symptoms develop.
the live one is showing such prolific vitality that it's hard to imagine the "maybe" catching up to it.

Well, if the air cells were loose, it's more than likely a shipping issue. If the eggs were well packed it's not the vendor's fault if the shipper (USPS, UPS, etc..) scrambles the eggs. Most all egg sellers make a declaration that they cannot be held responsible for damage done to the eggs during shipping.

If this helps at all, I usually do my last candling at day 14. From there the egg gets pretty full. If it's not developed by day 14 I throw it out. From there I am then ready to go on lockdown on day 18.

I normally do a cursory candle at day 7 looking for development, blood rings, and stinkers. Then at day 14 I do a serious candling and cull all the quitter and non starters. That's it for me. I did candle more in the beginning as it was so interesting!

If a package looks beat up on the outside I'll often candle before I set the eggs to look for loose air cells. However, in general if the air cell was so damaged it didn't reattach during the 24 hour "rest" before the egg went into the incubator, I'll see it loose during the day 7 candle.

If you decide for more eggs and since your doing BRs check for signs or adds for fresh brown eggs. Check to see if they come from BRs and if they are fertile. Getting fresh eggs from a local is a better bet on a good hatching rate. Maybe put a add in craigs list wtb local barred rock fertile eggs. Rocks are so common there is bound to be someone in the area with them.

For some reason I had very bad luck trying to hatch shipped BR eggs. Out of 3 dozen I ordered I only had 6 hatch, but it was the middle of winter.

Sorry about the bad hatching....I use 3 thermometers, hygrometers in each incubator....Smile.....I'm a bit compulsive, but this really helps...Sometimes one will go out and I have a back up. You'd be surprised at the rate of failure....I use one non battery set up, and 2 battery operated springfields (I've had a battery go down in the midst of the hatch and whew, if I weren't one to lay my hand on the plexiglass of the bator, it would have been sad.

With all that said, check out what's going on. S'field ones are about $7 and can be picked up in lawn and garden at Walmart or delivered. They work well. The little manual thermometers that come with incubators are basically throw aways....one - three hatches and they go down.

If you need help with some more eggs, I'm sure there are loads of folks who will get you more eggs. I'd be glad to ship you some as well and we have a wide variety.

Have a blessed day!
