I just completed my cabinet incubator and I would like to know if I should apply any clear varnish to the inside of it. It is sanded bare wood. Will it give out fumes since the inside will be hot and humid from the heat? Will it harm the eggs and the chicks when hatched?

Thanks

I can't offer any real advice, I'm not sure but it doesn't sound like a good idea... In any case, google how heat affects varnish/if varnish gives off chemicals in high temperatures!

Hopefully someone smarter than me can answer

You can use a water based polyurathane and the fumes are very low. After it dries, run the incubator as hot as it will go for a day or so to release any additional fumes and you should be all set. It may take a few coats but it dries very fast and you will really like the ease with which you can clean the incubator between hatches.

Absolutely, I will post pictures of my project. I am hoping to have on the coop designs page. Do know how I can get it to that page? I would love to share it.
