I dont usually feed my chickens grit, but Im starting to think that they might need it. I'm not exactly sure how much or how often I should feed it to them.

Help?

If the only thing you feed them is commercial chicken feed, already ground up fine and formed together for pellets or crumbles or other soft things then you don't need grit.

If you give them treats of vegetables, bugs, or other things that we humans would normally chew, then they need grit. Grit acts as grinding stones to help digest their food.

If they free range quite likely they can find the right sized pebbles for grit but bagged grit from the feed store is cheap and I make some available to my girls just to make sure they stay healthy.
