My sister and I are having a disagreement over whether we should butcher our chickens when they grow or if we should keep them until we have to sell them to my moms school farm, I wanna keep them but my sister wants some thanksgiving chicken, I’m tried to explain to her that they deserve to live because they provide us yummy eggs and bacon....but now that’s got me thinking if is the right or wrong thing to butcher our chickens when they grow..... help me

If you eat meat than butchering your own birds is an honorable thing.

It's quite another thing to raise your own chickens from chicks, and than actually being able to follow through with butchering and eating birds you know personally.

You should be asking yourself if you will be able to emotionally handle it. I say try a few and see how it goes. You cannot judge something until you do it.

Nothing wrong with culling them and filling the freezer, but it’s not something I could do. Mine all have names, and are pets that poop my breakfast. I’m planning n letting them all live in a retirement coop when the time comes, and live their life out as long as they are healthy & happy.

How old will they be when you have to sell them? Do u know if they are roosters or hens yet? I would consider butchering any extra roosters and keeping the hens... Also what kind are they, do you know?
