Hi. I have a 6 week old Mille Fluer Bantam with a bad crooked beak. I took pictures of her this morning to show y'all. She literally eats all the time (I guess cause she can't get much at a time). She has been growing well - in fact, she's larger than my 2 other MF's. My husband thinks we should cull her, cause we're both worried that she's in pain, and obviously this problem is getting worse, not better.

But today she's been really lethargic and I'm wondering if "nature" is sorting this out for me.

Here are some pics:

Also noticed this morning that she seeming unusually round:

What should I do for the poor girl??

Wow. So right after posting this, I went to check on her (we put her today in a brooder in the house cause she was obviously not feeling well), and I found that she'd died.

Poor sweet girl. Sad to see her go, but happy she's out of her misery.

So how is it she got to be this age with that beak? Have you have to feed her or is she able to feed herself?

And isn't there a devise that can correct that? It seems to be a fairly easy fix if caught early enough.

I feel so bad for her, and for you for having to consider such a drastic measure, and I can't help wondering how she's been able to eat thus far.

She's actually been able to eat on her own all this time. I had read about crooked beaks when I first noticed it (about 2 weeks old) and that there wasn't much you could do other than trimming the beak or making sure the feeders were deep enough for them to get their beaks far down into the food.

Awww...Im sorry. Its really tough when you see 'em getting worse and there's nothing you can do. I have a EE that was fine when I got her and developed cross beak a couple weeks later...She's not getting worse at the rate I was expecting. But the sad thing is inevitabley I know the day will come when I will have to kill her or watch her starve.
So..AS CALLOUS AS IT SOUNDS

..BE GLAD NATURE DID THIS FOR YOU SO YOU DIDNT HAVE TO DO IT AND ALWAYS WONDER "WHAT IF?"!!!!

So sorry about your little one, but better Mother Nature to have taken her than you should have to do it.
I have an EE, Esther, who is nearly 10 months old who I ordered as a day old chick and her beak didn't get crooked until a few weeks later. She was my first chicken to lay an egg and one of my most productive birds! She is able to eat but has to work at it harder than the others and she can be seen eating much more often than her peers. She is one of my favorites, she's so friendly and calm. I'm glad that she manages with her crookedness b/c she's such a sweetie!
