Why did the bird eat glass?

Gizzards are good, just need to be cleaned before use.
I will if I remember to when he comes back home. :D

It was a flock of 15 Cornish Xs that ate glass. It was our first year of chickens, and apparently, those meat birds were finding and eating broken windshield glass. When we butchered them and opened up their gizzards, it looked like it was full of diamonds.

Don't know if I'll ever dare to eat those....

Okay.

Make sure they don't have access to glass next time?

The Turkey we had to put down yesterday had Rocks in his gizzard. Solved the mystery of the holes in the dirt floor of the coop. Apparently they needed grit, which I need to get more of.

Yes. I have done that. The meat birds are no longer raised on that side of my house, and barely even get out of the coop except for when I'm cleaning. Those first meat birds were free ranged.

Rocks? Poor guy, but that's actually natural. Hey, does oyster shells work as grit?

Okay, good.

Yes, it is.

I wouldn't offer oyster shells as grit, since roosters don't require the calcium. I do offer it for the Turkeys to prevent rickets, which a couple of my Turkeys developed last year due to lack of calcium for their growing body's.

The hens get it offered free choice.

Ok. I was wondering because my hens get oyster shells, and wondered if that was enough. They do eat small rocks, which I've seen.
