Some people just like drawing with pencils. For example, I don't ink very often, so I just use pencils (plain and colored [typically mechanical]) and erasers the vast majority of the time.
I've found that pencils also tend to run out faster than erasers.

I use mechanical pencils. Tired of having to sharpen a wooden pencil.

Depends on the art set. I've them that included the pencils, paints, eisele(excuse my spelling), paper, water color, charcoal, crayons etc..
