Should I even bother with roosts for my silkies?

The step in nest should work try puttin the eggs in it and see then if that don't work move a nest to where they lay now so they can lay there and put an egg in there

Mine roost. The ones I have now roost about 3' up on the back of a bench, and I had one before that would roost on a roost 2' up. If they had higher roosts, they'd probably use them.

I didn't have roosts in their pen to start, but since they've adopted a cochin bantam roo as their leader, he has taught them to roost

Mine jump up on a hay bale, then jump up to a shelf and roost.
The shelf is 4 foot up.

I put a log in their pen but they don't even roost on that, they just stay on the ground.

I set a 2' x 4' along the top of their nesting boxes. It's only about a foot off the ground. I'm going to rearrange everyone to sit along the top of the board at night. Hopefully they get the hint! I'm tired of all the poo in the nesting boxes
