Should I get a mate for my peacock??

Hi to everyone who has and loves Peacocks like we do.
We are about 8 months new to peacocks. We have 2 Peahens, one is laying for sure and not sure about the other
one. The other Peahen is only about 5-10 % smaller than the one layingWe also have a Peacock. My question is, do the peacocks have to be a certain age before he will pick a mate
and breed ? (Or able to be a breeder). My other question is would it be acceptable to place another Peacock in the
same flight pen with our origional 2 Peahens and Peacock ? It's that we found a 2 Year old Peacock that is beautiful
at a good price. And if we were ever going to sell them we would have two pair.
We would love any thoughts or imput from you more experienced guys.
Sincerely,
Lee & ginng Penny

Hey neighbor! Congratulations on your peas. I suspect that the smaller female is a yearling. My June hatchlings are 90-95% the size of their mother. I know that one gender is more likely to reproduce at one year than the other, but I can't remember which, but both sexes do better after that first year. Help somebody! I am not sure about adding another male, but I don't have a good feeling about it. He would need to be introduced into a pen that is new to all four birds at the same time. I am not experienced with fighting peas, but this is the way it is with other species. Two males make twice as much noise as one, and trios are very easy to sell (one transaction instead of two) and are sometimes more desirable and than two pairs. Good luck, and let's see some pictures!

I'm relatively new to peas too, but from what I understand, a male has to be at least two if not three to be of breeding age. You may want to pm Deerman to find out for sure. He is very knowledgeable about peacocks.

I'm right there with Pavo Royale. I don't know about peacocks, but I know you could have a real problem introducing a young male to an established group with other species. Again, Deerman is the one to talk to.

Good luck with your peacocks. We LOVE ours!!
