I have always been fascinated by these birds. But should I get some for my Yard? I have been reading lots of posts to become educated on how to keep them, but I still don't feel like I know enough. Where can I get an ' All you need to know to keep Peafowl' handbook. Thanks to all who reply. I can tell that people on here truely care about these beautiful birds.

I love mine. I had wanted some all of my life. You can read just about everything you ever want to know about anything on the internet by doing searches. This forum has the most knowledgeable people and breeders and there's lots of great threads here that you can learn from. It's pretty much where I learned everything I know about them. Mine are free range so they are the easiest birds to raise because they roost high up in the trees and pretty much dominate everything else (dogs, chickens, ducks, goats). I don't "do" anything special for them.

Thank you Ruth. Mine would be freeranging as well. I guess there is no fence high enough to keep them in. I live in SoCal and on a canyon. I think they would be OK in the canyon if they decide to go there. I just hope they come back on my property to eat and to roost at night.

If you got some you would not want to just set free. You would want them to be contained for a couple of weeks and learn where their food is. Then let them out during the day and keep food around. Once they know where the food is they should stick around and be fine free ranging full time.
