Should I help my chick pip?

I just candled my egg now and I saw that it is still in the same internal position as it was yesterday. I saw that I piece of the air cell is filled with darkness and assumed it was an internal pip. The darkness in the air cell is a bit bigger but it still hasn't pipped. Its been more then 16 hours now! Can internal pipping take this long? Oh and just to add, the air cell looks very deformed, kinda looks like it is broken inside. Please help

I have never helped one that hadn't externally pipped yet. I've helped a lot that have though. And so far only had one egg not pip externally, or internally for that matter. That Chick was turned all wrong. Maybe could have saved it, but it's possible something was wrong with it causing it to be unable to get into position. Either way I would check it in the morning and go from there

It can take up to 24 hours for the chick to externally pip after it has internally pipped, i cant tell you whether to help it or not because i don't know the situation. I have only helped a chick once when a hen abandoned her egg clutch two days before hatching and i hadnt realized it till went to check on her the next day, i didn't have a broody on hand so i built my own pathetic little incubator (

) and only one chick was alive then, but he was very weak, he had already internally pipped but he was shrink wrapped so i followed the guide above that fancychooklady posted and helped the chick hatch. He died 5 days later. I would never help a chick again because if the chick isn't strong enough to hatch on its own it probably wont be strong enough to survive, i have heard of a couple successful assisted hatches. Just follow your gut feeling and keep us posted.

I too have lost a few that I assisted but just as many have survived. I had one hatch without absorbing the yolk and thought it was a goner when I came accross @sallysunshine's article. The little bugger pulled through even though it's hatch buddy was a duckling and it's broody was a rabbit.
Yep the rabbit kept both orphans warm . This is the ' Disney gang '.

I haven't had any I assisted not make it. Heck I've only lost one egg so far, and I didn't help it. It was the only one so far to not externally pip, or internally for that matter. I've helped a couple each hatch...keeps my numbers way up. Lol

So my chick died . I candled again and there was no movement whatsoever. I assisted with pipping and it already died. Lesson to everyone, don't be to hasty for you're chick to pip, it takes its time just like nature takes its time. Only assist when you are sure it has internally pipped but cannot get out! Don't candle too much, that's what I did so mine probably died from loss of humidity and heat
