Should I help this chick hatch or it is ok?

Yep and yall wont have to put up with all my chick & egg drama anymore!! And *I* will SLEEP!!!

I called Jas into the bathroom because i didnt remember him leaving so much on the outside of lil mans belly when he cut the yolk sac off. He was like Heather thats his intestines! I was like HOW? You tied it off before you cut the yolk sac.. and he then tells me that he didnt tie it off first.

I mean I did speak english!!!!

When he first cut the yolk sac off I put a little bit of neosporin around it so that it could help it heal. So some of that went back in with his intestines but not much. He managed to gently push them back in and then he tied a string really tight around the opening holding it together. He says if by some miracle he makes it, the skin will join there and the little bit on the other side of the string will just die and fall off. We also gave him an oral antibiotic. I mean we are giving the little guy the best chance hes got but he will be one hell of a miracle baby if he does pull thru! Really, we arent that optimistic :-/ But he is pretty active. He stands and flails about like most newborns. The 2nd we see that he starts acting like he is in pain or suffering though we will have to do something with him. He hasnt bled or anything so that is a plus. And the fact that all that green gunk and the infected yolk sac came out and then drained might be what saves him IFFFF he does make it. I had him sitting in my shirt while I was helping another one hatch lol... i do believe i have lost it!

hopefully I wont have any new eggs pip before I can FINALLY candle them! Im afraid to pip the eggs that havent internally pipped yet because i do not want to have to deal with another situation where the yold sac wasnt absorbed (although for different reasons than this last chick) but at the same time if theyre so shrink wrapped they CANT pip then they can or may have already died. Yep we are back to that! So just tell me what you would do. Would you candle and go ahead and externally pip the ones that have internally pipped? Or would you externally pip those as well as the others that havent internally pipped yet? Its been a good while now since the 1st egg hatching and I dont want to wait too long, yet i dont wanna mess anything up either if they arent ready! i HATE shrink wrap!!!

Let me opinions roll!!!! GO!

candle them and see what you have to work with first

then since you have had so many issues.. start with the internal pips first.. we already know there are going to be shrink wrap issues since the majority of the eggs have had it so far.. so lets just assume the worst.. I have to head out for a bit.. but i'll check back as soon as i get back home but get the internal pips out of the danger zone first.. then concentrate on the others later on.. hopefully they will internally pip too and you can get them all out and dry

"Little Man" (the one that ruptured his yolk sac earlier today) sitting in my hand. The flash made him close his eyes. He has had a hard first day of life thats for sure :-/ He likes being held :)

I'm going to give him something to eat and more antibiotics then I will go check again for any pips and if I dont see any I'll start candling :)

So why is it that every single time i actually want to candle the eggs i have ONE pipper??!?!? I guess in my case it doesnt matter because I'm gonna have to help it anyways im sure... this one will be chick #15!

I just finished feeding lil man 4 or 5 small pieces of scrambled egg yolk ( i cooked it that way because i have no idea how id get boiled yolk down its throat! i imagine it would be just as effective. I never cook so my husband would be so jealous that i cooked for my lil bird haha! i also gave him some more antibiotic as well. How much egg do you think he should eat and how often? The egg I chose for him was one of my favorites! a chocolate brown spotted welsummer egg :) someone told me once that those and copper marans eggs have the most protein content.. not sure if thats actually true or not but he can sure use all the nutrition he can get! His belly actually looks great! the part Jas tied off has blackened kind of like a little scab. It reminds me of Paytons lil belly when she was brand new :)

So I guess i'll check on that egg and if it needs me, well here i am! as soon as I get that one squared away I'll candle the rest! Hubby already hit the sac so he wont be pipping any eggs for me tonight. I am gonna have to do it and i am super nervous. SO afraid im gonna hurt the poor thing :-( or me! yall keep me in your prayers lol and while youre at it... my lil man too!

i crumble the hard boiled yolk and add some sugar water or electrolyte water it to make it runny enough to pull up into a syringe or eyedropper.. then dribble it on the beak a single drop at a time .. i have opened beaks before.. but I would caution someone doing this for the first time. i reserve that only for extremely weak chicks that must be force fed with a tube... also any more than a single drop at a time and you risk aspirating the chick.. aspiration pneumonia is a horrible thing.. so you never want to get liquids into the lungs

I am going to do that for this breakfast this morning! he did so much better drinking his water and antibiotic last night. The 1st time, i had to hold his mouth open but only gave him a drop at a time or maybe not even a full drop just enough for him to hold his head up and swallow it. Last night I gave him about 3 cc's and all i had to do was touch the syringe to his beak at the egg tooth and he would open his mouth and drink :) Maybe I'll get super lucky and he will do the same thing this morning with the egg yolk concoction :) Here's hoping!!

Thanks for calling me in the middle of the night Yinepu! It seems to be doing just fine. The membrane has stayed clear and moist and i could still see him moving around in there :) I checked on it this morning at 6 and again at 8 and everything looks great although it still hasnt internally pipped..

Well, I've got to feed my baby girl, then feed "lil man" and all my chickens outside.. the dogs... the cats... etc.. long day ahead! I hope some of my rockers pip for me today! I'm not such a fan of externally pipping an egg that hasnt internally pipped yet (eventhough that was an accident) but i just worry that perhaps they cant.. With that one last night it wasnt shrink wrapped so that was really nice news! Now if only my daughter will go down for a nap this morning... i would LOVE that and curl right up with her and try to start catching up on my sleep!!
