I have 24 hens, 1 roo. All of them are 24 1/2 weeks old. Yesterday I got 18 eggs, so I'm pretty happy about that.

I haven't yet seen any of my 4 GL Wyandottes squat, so I'm thinking they have yet to start to lay. I still think that is a pretty good amount, and I'm not even sure all 5 BR are laying either. I have 4 EE's, 5 RIR's and 6 Red Stars too. What do you think the average egg per day number will be about, once everyone starts laying? I was thinking 20 or so, am I in the right area, or am I being optimistic?

Well, that's going to depend on alot of things, even the weather! Chickens need light to lay eggs, so if you're in an area where daylight is getting shorter, then eggs will get fewer.

Some breeds, like your red stars and RIR might lay every day, while others will lay every other day or every few days. I'll guess at about 15 eggs a day....But I am truly guessing.

Keep us posted on how it's going!
