As fun as it is I wouldn't let him up on your shoulder either. That is a dominant position.

Dominant bird perches the highest.

You want to be dominant in the flock so don't let your birds' eyes get above your eyes.

Seriously, do not let them up by your face at all. People tend to think of roosters like puppies and kittens. That if people are good to them, they will love them and be life long companions. Roosters have a very small brain, and are mostly controlled by instinct and hormones.

Their instinct is to dominate life around them, and their hormones can make them aggressively try an do this.

Truthfully, I would not let him sit on my lap either. I do know that it is so much fun, but what you are taking as affection, is really a lack of fear, and a lack of fear in chickens often means a lack of respect for humans. Which means they are not afraid to try and aggressively control people. The darling becomes the nightmare.

Anyway - if nothing else, do not let him near your face.
