I saw a possum a couple days ago while me and my brothers were outside...my brother threw some snowballs at it and chased it off. I set the live trap where we had seen it just in case he decided to come back. Well, for about 3-4 nights in a row we caught nothing but cats.
The night before last however, we caught...a skunk. Yippee. ANYWAY. We usually have my uncle come over and shoot it but he won't be able to come until tonight. My chickens are getting CABIN FEVER and since it is going to be nice and sunny today I was going to let them out, but. Do you think it is safe to let them out with the skunk in the trap? Do you think they'll go over and see what is in there and get sprayed/grabbed? I'm not so much worried about my hens...they trap is out where they usually don't go but I'm wondering if my rooster will find his way over there and attack the cage? Will the skunk be able to harm him through the cage? My rooster has never seen a skunk before so I don't know if he'll know it's a predator or if instinct will tell him.
