so I set this last little surviving egg on 1/20 and it went into lock down thursday, it is now late sunday afternoon. she appears to be very active but hasn't pipped yet and I'm wondering if I should make a tiny safety hole to check to make sure the membrane isn't too dry for her to pierce. I have no idea how to hatch ducks and I made a mistake since I'm used to chickens and not ducks and used an open air incubator set up so it's been kinda hard to control humidity. the temp is kept within a two degree range of above 98.8 and below 99.7. Should I maybe make a tiny hole to check to make sure it's not too dry for her? she is also a cross between a white crested hen and a blue Swedish drake. I have no idea what I'm doing expect for the research I've done to get me to this point so any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, yeah, I did make the mistake of forgetting to get a humidity monitor so this has all been by guess

i am no expert at ducks at all but i think that might be a good idea but again i am no duck expert. is she/he the last egg in there? did you candle the egg?

I've candled her, she's alive and active and yeah, she's the last egg out of five I set, one made it right up to it's hatching date but passed away in the egg due to a birth defect, this baby was accidentally set later than the others

I think I'm just gonna go ahead and make a really small one no bigger than the tip of a toothpick so I can see in but I'm not sure whether to do it tonight or wait till tomorrow morning

has she internally pipped? Definitely do not make a hole just to check if she's too dry, if she has not internal pipped that'll just risk shrink wrapping her. Give her time, she may just be a little behind.
