so i was going to save 2 hens yesterday so i got my big dog creat ready put purch in it chicken food and water made cozy spot in the back have half of it covered up so these girls would have a nice calm place to come till i got somthing set up out side for there quenteen time. When I went to go get them the condion of everything were not good and these chickens did ont even try and run when they were picked up they did not look so good and i made the decsion as much as I woujld love to get them out fo there I would not risk my 4 girls at home I love to much so I had to walk away. (I guess the lady is goign to take them to the pound now so hopefully they are out fo there)

Any ways here is my ? My little bit is at the bottom of the pecking order I have stoped most the bullyig with her but she is most the time by her self out side my buff orpington hangs out wither here and there and she hangs out with the othere girls during treat time and off and on. Well Lillte found the dog creat (my chicks learned how to use my doggy door) she likes the dog creat and when it was time to go to bed that is where she went and has sleep there all night. I think she is very happy she is all streaced out sound alseep and has been cooing all night I just love that sound. If I let her do this is this only going to seprate her more from the other chickens and cause a prob or letting her be happy is ok. My chicknes are pets first and I love them just as much as I do my dog and cats so I want to do what keeps her happy,

I am a bit confused...Is she in the house? Maybe putting the crate in the coop with the other chickens, so she canstill feel safe..maybe its possible the other birds are kicking her off the roost....I know my silkies have kicked out new birds from the coop.

My advice...If your looking for another bird, my recomadation would be to buy a younger pullet, and raise the chick up with your lonely hen for awhile, so they can create a bond. Maybe just quarntine them for awhile, so they just have eachother.

What I'm getting from this is, she found the doggy door, came in the house and took over the dog crate? I'm a softie and I'd probably let her stay if she's so happy. That's probably against every good chicken keeping principle there is, but eh, what's another house pet? Are you prepeared to let her be a house chicken if she moves in permanently?
