It's been forever since I've been able to post anything on BYC. I missed it here. I hope I'm posting in the right thread...

I set a bunch of eggs in my bator on 7/25. Less than a week later, my SIL gave me a broody hen, and the pile of eggs she was sitting on. i'm guessing they were laid with in a few days of each other. yesterday, I saw a tiny chick dart underneath her. (I was so excited! she has 3 as I type with a few more eggs underneath her)

this morning, i have many pips in the bator. My question is when the babies come out of the bator, is it ok if I put the bator babies under the broody...They are going to be a day or 2 apart. will she take them? or should i just heat up the old rubber maid tote brooder. I've had a broody before, but the eggs disappeared before they hatched. I never found the eggs either.

my broody (Devil Hen) is in her own hutch, because I read that the other chickens will pick on the babies.

I named her Devil hen because she hates me. She screams at me when I talk to her, and growls at me when I look at her, and if looks could kill... Yesterday she tried to remove my arm at the elbow and today she bit me really hard. I know she is just being protective. My SIL had no idea what she is, so i'm fixing to post a pic in the breeds thread.

thanks for your help all

I've had hens that would accept extra chicks, and hens that wouldn't. Only they know for sure...

Hi
New to the chick stuff but...
I have read you should put them under her at night and in the AM she'll think they were always there.

I'm not too computer smart...thanks for putting the link there for me.

She still has a few eggs left under her. does any one think that she might think that she hatched more eggs?
