Our family of 3 goes through eggs now like crazy! We have 4 australorps and 3 people in the household. we get over a dozen a week and they are usually gone within a day or two of collecting them. Thus, we bought 5 more, but are ordering another 10. So, yes, in reality ordering more egg layers would be a good idea.

Most of your chicks that get shipped on the same day will all get along but every once in a while there could be a bully in the bunch (even among breeds that are known to be sweet) and you will just have to watch them to be sure everyone gets along. One of my B.O. chicks turned out to be a little bully and I had to trim the tip of her beak with nail trimmers right away as she had a real bad habit of making her rounds in the brooder pecking everyone else equally.

Sure you should get more but be sure that your lawn has enough area that it can handle all those bodies scratching on it every day if you plan to free range and also consider the poo factor. If they are just to be staying in their coop and specific chicken yard, then you don't have too much to worry about but my nine chickens produce quite a bit of manure in the barn and they do seem to scratch the stuffing out of a yard that has an area of about 1/4 or 1/5 of an acre.

I'm hopeful that the onset of Spring will help the grass to rebound but on the other hand, I'm worried that between the dogs and chickens that I could be living in a dustbowl by the time summer comes. So just be sure that you have enough area for your girls to thrive but not tear everything up.

I have 10 that are about the same breeds as you ordered. Chickens are a pain in the-------Preditors, chicken poop, daily care. I am lucky to not have a job. 5-10 is plenty. In time I intend to have 4 good layers, which is 1-4 eggs a day. Cleaner coop, less behaivour problems (more room) and you can give more attention. Next year if you really like this then get a dozen or three.
