Luna has been sitting on eggs for awhile now I know they are not fertile except 2 that I ordered fertile because she was so broody

Its day 12 for the fertile eggs . I am worried she would cont to sit on the infertile ones after the babies are hatched

Why is she sitting in infertile eggs you ask? She would leave the nest so my Nh red could go up there to lay in the exact spot my broody hen was laying and then my nh red would be done and leave a luna by broody would go back into her nest and sit on them

At one point when Luna first started getting broody and added some new chickens and ducks to my flock she got her own coop as she was moody She would stay there for days sitting on eggs then move to the other coop where she knew my my red lays and sit on those eggs if I did not collect them in time

I am just afraid if I take the infertile ones from her she will stop sitting on the ones that are fertile or she will get depressed

Shes been broody for months btw
And lucky for me she allows me to take her eggs and pat her
I took her eggs just to see if they were fertile
Thanks

You can remove the eggs you don't want her sitting on. It should not affect the remaining fertile ones. If you want you can replace with fake eggs or golf balls. This way you can still gather the other eggs being laid. I'm pretty sure they don't keep a count.
Being broody for months? Make sure you're keeping a close eye on her health. Broodys don't eat and drink like normal. It can run their systems down.

Take the infertile ones out. They could cause your fertile ones to not have enough contact but also could go rotten and make a mess. Birds are unpredictable, I have 1 that didn’t mind me taking eggs and another that was mad and changed nests.

Thank you so much

Oh yes broody for months. At first she would come out in the morning for half the day the spend the rest of her day in the nest

Then she refused to leave at all. I tried to break her of it but to no avail. She stopped laying and would just take my other hens eggs

Once I put fertile eggs under her she comes out once a day for a half hour or so to eat. Drink and take her dust bath.
And terrorize the others lol
They are mostly nervous around her because she looks crazy. feathers on the back of her neck sticks straight out its pretty funny

I know she's going to be a great mom. She is very determined and it broke my heart to see how bad she wanted babies
So since i no longer have a rooster I ordered the fertile eggs and hope she becomes one happy mama and joins the others eventually
I miss her running to me every time she sees me
