Hi there! We got this boy a while back and we’re told he was a pure light Brahma. He is absolutely stunning but I’m unsure if we should show him! My sister is in 4H and would love to show this particular guy but not sure where and if he is good enough.

What breed is the roo in the back with red all over his shoulders? I had a rooster just like that and I want to know what he was

He's a mix. His comb is heterozygous for the pea comb gene, his plumage coloration is incorrect, and his foot feathering is too sparse for a Light Brahma. Whether that impacts his show prospects or not really depends on the type of show, though. Some are picky about pure breeds, but others seem only to want the participants to demonstrate poultry showing techniques regardless of the bird being shown.

I agree, he's quite handsome but he doesn't look like a pure Light Brahma... his feet aren't feathered enough, no black on the hackles, and he doesn't have a pea comb.

Our county 4-H show isn't very strict either, but we'd have to list him as mixed breed. If you did show him, during showmanship you'd have to tell the judge the difference between his traits and a true Brahma, and you're best guess as to his breed combo.
