Personally, I would not take something like this on unless I knew *I* was gonna keep him forever. It's just not fair to the animal to ask him to fight his way through all the pain that healing will require only to wind up unwanted. If he's game enough to survive, then he deserves a forever home for his efforts, not a life of being passed around because nobody really wants him. That would be a very sad life indeed. So, unless I could do right by him, I'd pass. And I'd probably offer to pony up at least part of the euthanasia fee just to make sure this poor guy doesn't suffer needlessly. As a human being I feel a moral obligation to do right by any animal in that much pain and distress.
All of which is just my opinion, of course, but that IS what I'd do.
