I have a 4 y.o. buff Orpington who has accepted 5 bantam chicks. She was broody on nest/3 unfertilized eggs for 3 days
and we swapped the eggs for 5 chicks 2 nights ago.
Should I remove mama hen from the nest for a short break to walk, eat, poo? She hasnt left it in almost 5 days.
Water & chick starter food with grit are right in front of her nest box, the chicks come out and eat drink and go back under her.
I worry about her condition sitting for SO long without a break.
Should I leave her alone or take her out for a few minutes?
Thanks!

When my hen was broody, I put a bowl of feed and a bowl of water next to the nest for her.

Oh sorry- just realised that you have done that already...
Chickens are built for sitting for long periods of time. Don't worry she'll be fine!

I was surprised at how long my ducks would sit on the nest. I also provided food and water within easy reach and everyone was fine. Birds have been doing this whole nesting things longer than we have been keeping them, so I'm pretty sure she is fine.
