Should I use a hen?

I have 3 chicks coming the first week of April. We have a hen that has recently had some nerve damage but she is getting better. She is getting bullied by the flock and I want her to rejoin the flock but I also don’t want her to be bullied. Almost everyone I have asked has said they prefer to raise chicks with a hen. Do you think she will adopt and or care for them?

Probably not, unless she is broody to start with. I have had broody hen sitting on eggs for the 21 days. Never really know how many will hatch, so I’ve bought day old chicks and slipped them under her at night on about day 22.

She will not except them if she is not broody. If you put her with them she will most likely kill your chicks.

Agree with the other two posters. Unless she has been sitting and has some broody hormones going, I wouldn't introduce them to her. She would likely attack them.
