My son moved our brooder from the laundry room to our garage since he was fixing the door. He did not realize that he had sloshed a lot of the water around in the brooder. The chicks laid in the wet pine bedding which haas chicken food in it and so now have a "matted" bit of features down the front of their chest and partially on underside. They have already dried off under the heat of the light but still have this stripe of matted feathers. Should I just let it go or should I wash them off?? This is our first group of chickens we are raising.

It is your choice as long as they are dry. They will preen themselves given enough time and start to look better. If you choose to wash them use a mild soap like dawn only with warm water and either blow dry them on low (they love it) or towel dry them as best as you can and put them under heat as they cannot regulate heat when wet.
